Welcome! Thanks for stopping by.
I've been a working writer for more than 20 years. If something needs to be written, I'm probably interested in writing it. I do some editing, too, and I've taught writing at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
For kids: I've written more than three dozen books for kids in grade one through high school, mainly for the school and library market. Some have been specifically for English language learners. I've written lots of curriculum and teacher materials, too. I write both nonfiction and fiction. I love to write nonfiction because I love learning -- it's that simple. I think research is a blast, especially when it involves history and culture. Fiction challenges and excites me -- and I love that, too.
For adults, in addition to writing for businesses and nonprofits, I have a passion to help people preserve the important events in their lives. I've also written for newspapers and magazines and contributed to reference books, including a book on constitutional amendments and some legal encyclopedias. I trained as a lawyer; although I don't practice now, my legal background has helped form me as a writer.
September 2019 check-in:
I just received my copies of three books I wrote for Heinemann. Yay! And, I'm expecting my six hi los from Rourke soon. I'll post the covers soon.
I'm headed to the SCBWI conference in Fargo on September 13-14. Woo hoo! I can't wait to spend time with lots of passionate writers (and illustrators).
